Micah Howard

Micah Howard is an Artist Lecturer in Double Bass at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music, alongside adjunct roles at Youngstown State University and Duquesne University. He is a core member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 1996, touring globally and performing as a soloist, chamber musician, and recitalist. Howard is deeply engaged in music education, coaching youth orchestras like the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony and leading outreach programs. He holds a B.M. from Youngstown State University and an M.M. from Duquesne University School of Music.

His expertise spans orchestral performance, double bass pedagogy, and music advocacy. Notable achievements include shaping Pittsburgh Symphony's hiring processes and mentoring students who've joined major orchestras worldwide. Howard’s 1995 win at the International Society of Bassists Competition underscores his artistic excellence.

He actively contributes to academic and artistic committees, blending performance with education to foster future generations of musicians.
