Megan Swanson

Megan Swanson, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ob/Gyn & Reproductive Sciences at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), specializing in gynecologic oncology. She focuses on cervical cancer disparities, particularly in low-resource settings, and has conducted extensive research in East Africa. Dr. Swanson’s work includes developing cervical cancer screening programs in Uganda and addressing barriers to care in resource-limited regions.

Education: Stanford University (BA Human Biology, 2004), UC Berkeley (MPH Maternal Child Health, 2010), UCSF School of Medicine (MD, 2011), UCSF Ob/Gyn Residency (2015), and UCSF Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship (2019).

Research Interests: Global health disparities in cervical cancer outcomes, implementation of effective screening methods in low-income countries, and healthcare access innovations. She has collaborated with Makerere University and the Uganda Cancer Institute to improve cervical cancer care infrastructure.

Publications: Her articles focus on cervical cancer screening strategies, HPV detection in community settings, and adapting clinical guidelines for resource-limited environments. Notable work includes studies in Uganda and Kenya published in *Infectious Agents and Cancer*, *BMC Women's Health*, and *Gynecologic Oncology Reports*.

Awards: Recipient of the NIH Fogerty International Center GloCal Health Fellowship (2016), multiple teaching awards, and recognition for family planning excellence during residency.
