Maxwell Beckman

Maxwell Beckman is an Instructor of Bass in the Music Department at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS), part of the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). His role involves teaching and performance, with a focus on bass guitar and double bass. He is a Springfield native and has extensive performance experience across jazz, orchestral, and ensemble settings.

Education:

• Violin training began at age 3 at the Fleming Academy of Performing Arts.
• Saxophone studies in middle school, followed by bass guitar and double bass under Andrew Tinge (Illinois Symphony Orchestra member).
• High school at Interlochen Arts Academy.
• Bachelor's studies at DePaul University’s School of Music under Kelly Sill.

Performance History: Beckman has performed with notable artists such as Bob James, Shelly Berg, and Marquis Hill, and groups like Axis Sova, Flux Bikes, and the Northbrook Symphony. He has also participated in events like the Monterey Next Gen Jazz Festival and toured extensively with various ensembles.

Labs/Teams: Actively involved in UIS’s music ensembles and collaborates with external groups, reflecting his commitment to bridging academic training with professional performance.
