Matthew Tyce is a Lecturer in International Political Economy at King’s College London’s Department of European & International Studies, part of the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. He previously held roles as an associate lecturer and research associate at the University of Manchester’s Global Development Institute following his PhD in Development Studies.
His research focuses on the political economy of state-building and economic transformation in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Ghana and Kenya. Current projects include a British Academy-funded study on energy transition and green industrialization in these regions. He teaches courses on Power and Poverty in Africa-EU Relations and The Political Economy of Financial Crises.
Research interests span development studies, comparative politics, and the intersection of energy policy with socio-economic transformation. He is affiliated with King’s Just Transitions and Interdisciplinary Peace research group and the Geoeconomics and Technology Initiative.
