Matthew Moreland is an Associate Professor in Phonetics at the University of East Anglia's School of Health Sciences, where he also serves as Joint Academic Lead for Interprofessional Learning and Extenuating Circumstances Chair for HCPC-regulated professions. He holds part-time status, concurrently working as a pronunciation editor for the Oxford English Dictionary.
His education includes a PhD in Applied Linguistics (University of Reading, 2011), an MSc in Speech & Language Therapy (University of Reading, 2015), and a BA in Linguistics & Clinical Language Studies (University of Reading, 2006).
Research interests span clinical phonetics, acoustic phonetics, pronunciation lexicography, and interprofessional education. He employs innovative pedagogical methods, including musical parodies for teaching acoustic concepts. His work bridges theoretical linguistics and clinical applications, particularly in speech disorder management.
Awards include the student-led Most Innovative Teaching Award (2016) for acoustic phonetics pedagogy and recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
