Matteo Bertele' is an Associate Professor of Contemporary Art History at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage. He serves as Departmental Delegate for Erasmus and Deputy Director of the Center for Studies on Russian Art (CSAR). His research focuses on Soviet, Russian, and socialist art, Cold War cultural dynamics, and exhibition history. He has held global fellowships, including a Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant (2018–2020) for the GYSIART project on Cold War art practices. Bertele' has authored monographs, edited volumes, and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals like Venezia Arti and Getty Research Journal. He coordinates international programs such as the Summer School on Contemporary Art and Curatorship (Ca' Foscari/Universität Kassel).
His teaching spans graduate courses in Eastern European modern art, Russian art history, and contemporary art theory. He has lectured globally, including at institutions like the University of California Berkeley, the Getty Research Institute, and the Russian National Centre for Contemporary Arts. His editorial roles include co-directing Venezia Arti's contemporary section and serving on the boards of MDCCC 1800 and the book series La prospettiva rovesciata.
