Silvia Burini

Prof. Silvia Burini is a full Professor of History of Russian Art, History of Contemporary Art, and Contemporary Art Curatorship at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, where she has directed the Center for Studies in Russian Art (CSAR) for over ten years. She serves on the artistic committee of the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and is a member of SHERA (Society of East European, Eurasian and Russian Art and Architecture) and the Expert Committee for the Russky Rim prize.

Her research spans History of Russian Art, Contemporary Art, and Art Curatorship, with significant contributions to semiotics of art and cyber art. She has authored monographs on artists including Alexander Ponomarev (2020), Cristina Finucci (2021), and AES+F (2022), and edited Yuri Lotman's Semiotics on the arts (2022), reflecting her expertise in bridging Russian artistic traditions with contemporary global practices.

Her scientific awards include:

• Pushkin honor (2014) for dissemination of Russian culture and art
• Honorary membership in the Academy of Arts of Russia (since 2014)

Prof. Burini supervises doctoral theses across Italy, Russia, and Spain, and post-doctoral projects in France. She previously served as Vice-Rector for Cultural Productions (2011-2014), currently co-directs the International Ph.D. programme in History of Arts, and founded Art Night Venezia (2010). She also directs the journal 'Venezia Arti' and the Summer School 'Contemporary Art and Curatorship' in collaboration with the University of Kassel.

She leads CSAR and drives international academic collaborations, particularly through the Summer School partnership with Kassel, while currently authoring a comprehensive History of Russian Art volume for Einaudi.
