Matt Wallin is a tenured full Professor and Chair in the Department of Communication Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts in Richmond, Virginia. He specializes in 3D computer graphics, visual effects, and the creative application of emerging digital technologies.
Wallin earned a Cinema degree from San Francisco State University in 1992 and spent nearly a decade at Industrial Light and Magic before working globally at top visual effects houses like Weta Digital and Sony Pictures Imageworks. His film credits include The Mummy, Matrix films, King Kong, and collaborations with artist Matthew Barney on the Cremaster Cycle and Drawing Restraint 9.
He co-hosts the VFX Show podcast and hosts the 8111 (Eighty-one Eleven) podcast, which documents the careers of Industrial Light and Magic alumni. His teaching and creative work bridge academic instruction with industry expertise in digital visual effects and technology.
