Matt Newcomb

Matt Newcomb is Associate Professor of English and Composition Program Coordinator at SUNY New Paltz, with expertise in rhetoric, composition theory, and environmental writing. He holds a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University and teaches first-year writing, cultural studies, and research methods.

Research explores sustainability in composition pedagogy, environmental rhetoric, and community-based writing practices. His work examines how discourse shapes responses to environmental crises and social justice issues.

Publications investigate rhetorical approaches to climate change, educational gamification, and writing program administration. Current projects focus on wicked problems in composition instruction and scientific communication.

Awards include Excellence in Service (2020) from SUNY New Paltz. He serves on multiple university committees including the Writing Board and Strategic Planning Council.
