Matheus Cruz

Dr. Matheus Cruz is Assistant Professor of Voice and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point (UWSP), where he conducts the UWSP Concert Choir, Choral Union, and teaches music education courses. He also serves as Artistic Director of the Monteverdi Chorale in Stevens Point.

Cruz specializes in Brazilian choral music, with scholarly focus on composers Osvaldo Lacerda and José Maurício Nunes Garcia. His research explores repertoire development, cultural preservation, and intergenerational music programs. He maintains active roles as a clinician for festivals in Brazil and the U.S., including leadership in ACDA Southwestern Division (2020-2022) and directing Cascavel and Pato Bragado music festivals in Paraná, Brazil.

His publications address choral repertoire selection and pedagogical frameworks. Cruz also creates and publishes vocal arrangements of Brazilian music through Pavene and MusicSpoke, contributing to cultural diversity in choral performance.

Current roles include choral direction, teaching introductory conducting courses, and serving as Chorus Master for UMKC opera productions. He previously taught K–12 music in Brazil and directed community choruses and church choirs in Paraná.
