Martin Owen is the Alfred Brain Professor of Horn at the Royal Academy of Music and holds the position of Principal Horn with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, and Haffner Ensemble. He has served as Principal Horn of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Berliner Philharmoniker. His career spans solo performances with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Orquesta Nacional de España, and New World Symphony.
Notable recordings include Richard Strauss and Robert Schumann concertos with the BBC Philharmonic, Elliott Carter's Horn Concerto (Bridge Records), and Mozart's horn concertos (RPO Classics). He has contributed to over 300 film soundtracks, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Martin is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and teaches masterclasses globally, coaching the horn section of the European Union Youth Orchestra.
Recent highlights include Mozart Horn Concertos with Manchester Camerata (2025), Strauss Concerto No.2 with Orchestra Sinfonico di Milano (2024), and performances of Britten’s Serenade across Europe. His 2023 Chandos recordings of Strauss, Schumann, and Weber concertos received critical acclaim for their 'sheer joy' and 'masterly technique.'
