Martin Jones

Martin Jones is a Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean (Regional) at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Edith Cowan University, based in Bunbury, South-West Australia. He has held leadership roles in the UK's National Health Service (NHS) and Australia's University Department of Rural Health, focusing on rural health equity, mental health interventions, and interprofessional collaboration. Martin has managed £200M budgets and secured over $5M in grant funding from partnerships like the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Australian Tele Trial Program (ATP).

His research spans clinical trials, rural health, and co-existing mental health conditions. Key projects include developing behavioral activation training for depression, the Health Improvement Profile (HIP) for serious mental illness, and innovative educational models for rural healthcare workers. Recent publications focus on behavioral activation in custodial settings, interprofessional collaboration in mental health, and rural workforce distribution.

Martin has supervised 3 PhD students and serves as Associate Editor for the Australian Journal of Rural Health. Awards include membership on the MRFF 2023 Childhood Mental Health Research Review Committee. Current grants include an Al enhanced referral system project (2024–2025) and the Back on Track peer-led behavioral activation trial for farmers (2024–2025).

Collaborations include the Australian Tele Trial Program (ATP) and leadership in doubling rural student placements and improving research outputs in regional Australia. He is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (UK) and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
