Dr. Marilyn Young is a Professor of Management and Research Fellow at the Hibbs Institute for Business & Economic Research, affiliated with The University of Texas at Tyler's Soules College of Business. She holds a Ph.D. and M.B.A. from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, and a B.S.B.A. from the same institution. Her research focuses on entrepreneurial success factors for marginalized groups (veterans, women, Hispanics, millennials), economic development, hidden unemployment, and community resilience. She has contributed to over 60 publications in journals like Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship and Journal of Applied Management & Entrepreneurship.
As an active consultant, Dr. Young partners with economic development organizations in Texas (Tyler, Athens, Longview) and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship. Her work includes a landmark report Tyler, Texas MSA: A Military and Veteran-Friendly Community. She has organized academic initiatives such as the UT Tyler Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter and served leadership roles in departments like the MBA Program and Small Business Institute.
Her professional service includes board memberships with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra and Smith County Historical Society. Research interests span family business dynamics, workforce passion, and millennial leadership. Dr. Young has presented at major conferences including Academy of Management and Decision Sciences Institute, and her work bridges academic research with real-world business challenges.
