Marilieke Engbers is a Lecturer at the School of Business and Economics (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and co-director of the Hub Governance and Board Research. She teaches courses such as 'Strategy Realization' and 'Corporate Governance and Business Ethics', focusing on governance dynamics and 'unsaid' communication in boards. Her PhD (2020) explored how unspoken factors influence board decision-making. She actively contributes to Dutch governance sectors through research, consulting, and media engagements.
Education: PhD in Corporate Governance (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, 2016–2020). Key research interests include board conflict management, implicit communication, and governance paradigms. She has published widely on these topics, including a notable book Onder Commissarissen (2022, shortlisted for Management Book of the Year) and peer-reviewed articles in Corporate Governance: An International Review and Frontiers in Communication.
Her recent research includes qualitative studies on self-evaluations of non-executives in healthcare and housing sectors, funded by the Authority of Housing Corporations. Engbers also serves as a board consultant and panel member on Dutch Business Radio (BNR), providing expert commentary on governance issues.
