Tjerk Budding

Tjerk Budding serves as a Senior Lecturer in Financial Management at TIAS School for Business and Society, Tilburg University, and as Program Director for public control courses at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He also chairs the audit committee of IJburg College and is a member of the executive board of the Comparative International Public Sector Accounting Research Network.

Dr. Budding's research focuses on accounting, control, corporate governance, and risk management within the public sector. He investigates management accounting practices, financial management regulations, and performance measurement in government entities, with particular attention to municipalities and executive agencies.

His recent scholarly output (2018-2021) centers on public sector financial management, including studies on management accountants' roles, the three lines of defense model, and parliamentary oversight of financial regulations. His work often employs survey methodologies and comparative analyses to address challenges in public governance.

He has advised prominent governmental bodies including the Ministry of Finance, the Netherlands Court of Audit, the Police, and the Dutch Parliament.

As a member of the executive board of the Comparative International Public Sector Accounting Research Network, he contributes to advancing international research collaboration in public sector accounting.
