Maria Moreno is a Faculty Associate in the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from UW-Madison, a master's from Boston University, and a bachelor's from American University. Her work focuses on community-engaged scholarship and land-based learning approaches informed by concepts of resilience, stewardship, and ethics.
Her research examines the relationships between human culture, environmental systems, and holistic wellbeing. She designs and teaches undergraduate courses while developing curricula for outreach programs centered on restoration education.
Dr. Moreno leads international Earth Partnership programs in México, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Puerto Rico. She previously served as Associate for Experiential Education in the Global Health program and on the Lakes and Watershed Commission (2018-2024). Her Peace Corps service in West Africa informs her cross-cultural approach.
