Marcus Syring

Prof. Dr. habil. Marcus Syring is a Professor of Educational Science in the Department of School Pedagogy at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, where he has served since October 2021. He holds multiple leadership roles including Speaker of the Department of School Pedagogy, Deputy Director of the Institute of Educational Science, and spokesperson for the Special Interest Group 'Tübingen Video-based Casuistics (TüViKa)' at the Tübingen School of Education.

He has developed innovative approaches using qualitative methods and video-based casuistics to study teaching practices and professional development.

His publications reveal a strong emphasis on practical applications of educational theory, particularly in preparing teachers to work effectively in diverse classrooms. The research demonstrates evolving interests from foundational classroom management studies toward more complex examinations of diversity, inclusion, and teacher beliefs in increasingly heterogeneous educational environments.

His research has secured funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

He leads the Tübingen Video-based Casuistics (TüViKa) research group and has directed significant projects including 'SchoolDeC' examining school development in refugee camps in Kurdistan/Northern Iraq, demonstrating his commitment to addressing educational challenges in diverse contexts worldwide.
