Magda Morus-Fijałkowska

Associate Professor Magda Morus-Fijałkowska is a distinguished Polish flutist and music educator affiliated with the Academy of Music. She has maintained a dual career as both a performer and pedagogue since the early 2000s, with significant contributions to flute performance and chamber music in Poland and internationally.

Her educational background includes a degree from the St. Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk (2001), where she studied under Elżbieta Symonowicz-Czapor, and further studies at the Turku Conservatory of Music in Finland through an Erasmus scholarship (2000/2001) with Professor Hannu Lehtinen.

Professor Morus-Fijałkowska's research and performance interests focus on flute performance techniques, contemporary chamber music, and Polish musical traditions. Her work demonstrates particular expertise in interpreting 20th- and 21st-century compositions for flute, with emphasis on expanding the repertoire through premieres and recordings of new works.

Her discography reveals a clear trajectory from traditional chamber music recordings toward more specialized explorations of contemporary flute literature, with increasing focus on Polish composers and international collaborations. The 2023 release 'Shades of Flute' represents the culmination of her recent work exploring sonatas for flute, alto flute, and piano across modern eras.

As an educator, Professor Morus-Fijałkowska has taught flute at the G. Bacewicz State Music School Complex in Koszalin since 2002 and frequently serves as a juror at music competitions and CEA auditions. She is also the initiator, organizer, and artistic director of the Flute Symposium in Koszalin, bringing together international flute specialists for educational exchange.

She performs extensively as a chamber musician with several notable ensembles including the Polish Flute Trio (with Ewa Murawska and Ewelina Agata Zawiślak), the European Flute Ensemble, the Flute Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Łódź, and the Norwegian Flute Ensemble, having given numerous premieres in Poland and abroad.
