Mabel Scott

Dr. Mabel Scott serves as Acting Chair of the Health Sciences Department and Professor at South Carolina State University, where she also supervises Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) majors and co-sponsors the HPE Society.

Joining SCSU in Fall 2008 as Associate Professor, she was promoted to Full Professor in 2020 and assumed the Acting Chair role that same fall after six years as academic program coordinator. Her research centers on childhood obesity interventions, notably a $300,000 grant (2011-2014) investigating technology's role in reducing obesity among 8-12 year olds. She teaches PE 200 (Physical Education for Pre K-8th Grade teachers), ED 425 (Seminar II: Applications and Assessments), and ED 430 (Clinical Experience).

Dr. Scott oversees PETE majors' academic progress and advises the HPE Society while serving on multiple university committees. Her grant leadership demonstrates sustained research commitment alongside administrative responsibilities in health sciences education.
