Lucille Kerr is a Professor of Latin American Literature and Culture at Northwestern University's Department of Spanish and Portuguese. She is affiliated with the Latin American & Caribbean Studies, Jewish Studies, and Comparative Literary Studies programs. She held the Herman and Beulah Pearce Miller Research Professorship from 2003 to 2005. Her research focuses on 20th-century Latin American literature, including the Boom and post-Boom movements, narrative fiction, literature and film, testimonio, and Jewish Latin America. She is the author of Suspended Fictions: Reading Novels by Manuel Puig and Reclaiming the Author: Figures and Fictions from Spanish America, and co-editor of Teaching the Latin American Boom. She founded the Latin American Literature and Film Archive and serves as Review Editor for Latin American Literary Review. Her work has been supported by the American Philosophical Society, ACLS/SSRC, and NEH.
Her current research explores 'Jewish Readings in Latin American Literature and Culture.' She has directed dissertations on topics ranging from colonial and 19th-century literature to 20th-century themes like Cuban anti-slavery narratives and Eva Perón studies. She served as Chair of her department in two terms (1999–2002 and 2003–2006).
