Lorenzo Gradoni is a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Bologna’s Law Faculty and held Visiting Professorships at Sorbonne Law School, Universities of Turin, Florence, and Trento. He has acted as Chief Scientific Advisor to the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law and is a peer reviewer for leading law journals and publishers.
- Education: PhD in EU Law (University of Bologna), Master’s in European Studies (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), BA in Political Science–History of International Relations (magna cum laude, University of Bologna).
His research focuses on the history of international legal thought, sources theory (customary law), outer space law, WTO law, climate change litigation, and international/transnational adjudication. He actively contributes to projects like the Reform of the Brussels Ibis Regulation and chairs the International Law Association’s Committee on the Protection of Privacy in Private International and Procedural Law.

Gradoni advises on dispute resolution frameworks through initiatives like the IMPRS for Successful Dispute Resolution in International Law and collaborates on EU legal reforms via the EFFORTS project. His work bridges academic research with practical legal challenges in transnational governance.
