Dr. Lisa Ryan is the Head of the School of Science and Computing at Atlantic Technological University (ATU, Galway) and directs the Irish Concussion Research Centre (ICRC) and the Medical and Engineering Technologies Gateway (MET). Her research focuses on sports-related concussion management, sex-based health differences, nutrition, and bioactives in sports performance. She leads six European projects in sport, exercise, and nutrition and supervises 9 PhD students.
Research interests include concussion recovery in female athletes, nutritional strategies for injury recovery, and functional food development. Recent work examines psychological recovery protocols in Gaelic games and multidisciplinary nutrition care in primary healthcare.
Dr. Ryan advocates for women’s health and participation in sports, particularly in rugby. Her projects emphasize translational research between academia and industry, addressing real-world applications in athlete safety and public health.
