Lesley Masters

Dr. Lesley Masters is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs, Loughborough University London. She serves as course leader for NTU’s MA courses in International Relations and is a senior associate researcher at the South African Research Chair in African Diplomacy and Foreign Policy (since 2019). She co-convenes the Africa and International Studies working group of the British International Studies Association (BISA) and NTU’s research group on International Security and Sustainability.

Lesley’s research focuses on non-state actors in foreign policy and diplomacy, environmental diplomacy, Science & Technology’s role in diplomacy, and the digital revolution’s impact on international relations. She has explored the influence of domestic actors on South Africa’s foreign policy and supported the South African Parliament’s engagement in international affairs.

She was shortlisted for the South African National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences award (March 2024) in recognition of her editorial work on the South African Foreign Policy Review, now in its fourth volume.
