Laura K. Zimmermann is a Professor of Psychology at Shenandoah University, located in the Halpin-Harrison building. She holds positions within the Arts & Sciences School, specifically in the Psychology Department. Her educational background includes a B.A. with Honors in Psychology and Religion from Emory University, an M.S. in Developmental Psychology from the University of New Mexico, and a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology with a minor in Language and Cognition from the same institution.
Her research focuses on child development, biopsychology, environmental influences, and cultural factors. Current projects include Collaborative Online International Learning with students in the U.S. and Jordan, and examining student perceptions of game-based learning. She has published in journals such as Journal of Children and Media, Chronobiology International, and Psychoneuroendocrinology, and was featured in a New York Times interview.
Zimmermann teaches courses like PSY 308 (Research Methods), PSY 321 (Infancy and Childhood), and interdisciplinary classes such as PSY/ES 306 (Psychology in the Wild). Her work bridges developmental psychology with applied contexts, emphasizing cross-cultural and environmental dimensions.
