Kunal Patel serves as an Assistant Professor in Residence in the Department of Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He completed a neurosurgery residency and CAST-accredited fellowship in neurosurgical oncology, with clinical expertise in brain tumors and cerebrospinal fluid disorders. His faculty appointment includes 50% protected research time on an NIH funding track, supported by departmental resources including lab space and start-up funds.
His research spans Neuro-oncology and Glioblastoma with emphasis on Advanced MRI Imaging (diffusion weighted imaging, chemical exchange saturation transfer), Molecular Techniques, and Health Disparities in neuro-oncologic care. He integrates single-cell RNA sequencing, bioinformatic analysis, and in vitro/in vivo models to develop translational approaches for brain tumor treatment.
Dr. Patel actively contributes to UCLA's brain tumor program, brain tumor SPORE, and translational resource, maintaining image-guided biopsy pipelines for collaborative laboratories and presenting at brain tumor boards to facilitate research recruitment.
