Frederick Lang, M.D., FACS, FAANS, FAAAS is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He also holds an Adjunct Professor position at Baylor College of Medicine and is a Faculty Member at the MD Anderson Cancer Center UT Health Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Lang received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery residency at New York University Medical Center followed by a neurosurgical oncology fellowship at MD Anderson. He joined the MD Anderson faculty in 1996 after completing his fellowship. His research focuses on developing biological therapies for brain tumors, with particular emphasis on deep-seated tumors in eloquent brain regions.
As a translational researcher, Dr. Lang has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. His laboratory investigates viral therapies, mesenchymal stem cells in gliomas, and p53 gene therapy, working to translate innovative biological therapeutic approaches from bench to bedside. He has served as Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials investigating these novel approaches to brain tumor treatment.

Dr. Lang serves as Principal Investigator for MD Anderson's Brain Cancer SPORE grant, one of only five such federally funded grants in the country. He has served as past President of the Society for Neuro-Oncology and past Chair of the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors. He is an Associate Editor of Neurosurgery and on the Editorial Board of Neuro-Oncology and Translational Oncology.
The Lang Laboratory, directed by Dr. Lang, is a clinical and translational research laboratory in the Brain Tumor Center at MD Anderson. The laboratory team investigates viral therapies, mesenchymal stem cells in gliomas, and p53 gene therapy. The lab has received significant funding from organizations including The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research ($5 million pledge), CureFest, Inc., The Elias Foundation, The Uncle Kory Foundation, and the National Cancer Institute.
