Krystal K. Beamon

Dr. Krystal K. Beamon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at The University of Texas at Arlington. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Oklahoma State University (2005), with a focus on the post-collegiate experiences of African-American male student-athletes. Her career includes roles as an Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma and a Teaching Associate at Oklahoma State University.

Her research focuses on race, sport, education inequality, and the social experiences of student-athletes. Key areas include the transition of African-American athletes out of sports, the intersection of race and athletics, and institutional discrimination in education. She has published widely in journals like Journal of Negro Education and Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, and authored books such as The Enduring Color Line in U.S. Athletics.

Dr. Beamon has received numerous awards, including the Rising Star Award (2017), Outstanding Teaching Award (2014), and multiple service-learning recognitions. She actively serves on committees like the Center for African-American Studies Annual Research Conference and advises student organizations such as Alpha Kappa Delta.

Her teaching spans courses like Sociology of Sport, Racial and Ethnic Groups in the US, and Inequalities in Public Education. She has mentored over 30 students through independent studies and thesis committees, emphasizing community engagement and academic rigor.
