Kirt Witte

Kirt Witte is a Professor of Visual Effects at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where he has taught since 2001. His career bridges academia and industry, with expertise in visual effects, digital photography, and 3D animation.

• Education: M.F.A. in Computer Art from SCAD, B.S. in Photography from Sam Houston State University

Witte’s research focuses on High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI), spherical panoramic photography, and the intersection of technology and artistic practice. He has pioneered techniques in HDRI through presentations at global conferences like ACM SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH ASIA, and his work explores applications in both artistic and commercial contexts.

Scientific and artistic accolades include multiple awards for wildlife and coastal photography, recognition in the 'Masters of Color Photography' competition, and SCAD’s Presidential Fellowship for Faculty Development. His freelance photography and graphic design clients span industries, including Coca-Cola, McDonald's, and the Savannah Economic Development Authority.

As a leader in professional communities, Witte co-founded the Savannah Maya Users Group and served as president of the Dallas Alias|wavefront User's Group. He also mentors students through roles like faculty co-sponsor of SCAD’s Digital Media Club and as a guest speaker on HDRI techniques.
