Kim Perlak is the Chair of the Guitar Department at Berklee College of Music, where she received the 2016 Berklee Chair Recording Grant. She holds a DMA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MM from Yale University School of Music, and a BM from Stetson University, along with a Harvard Management Development Program certificate. Her work bridges classical and modern guitar techniques through collaborations with composers and interdisciplinary projects.
- Developed curriculum resulting in the textbook Classical Technique for the Modern Guitarist (2016)
- Recipient of grants from the Center for African American Southern Music and Yale Alumni Ventures
Research interests include new composition, music education, and outreach initiatives. Notable projects include the Common Ground recording featuring American composers and the Ben & I Play for Peace veterans collaboration honored by PBS and Congress.
