Kelly M. Nims

Kelly M. Nims is a Doctoral Lecturer in the Department of English and affiliated faculty in Women and Gender Studies at Hunter College, CUNY. She holds a PhD in Applied Anthropology from Columbia University and a BA in English from the University of Virginia.

Her research interests intersect global black studies, black feminism, and literary ethnography. She teaches interdisciplinary courses on Zora Neale Hurston, Black Aesthetics, Harlem Renaissance, Hip Hop Feminism, and intersectional protest movements.

Nims is currently working on two monographs: one exploring Afrofuturism in Hurston's work, and another examining miscegenation through 20th-century literature and critical race theory. Her recent publications analyze Fanon, Malcolm X, and Zimbabwean identity politics.
