Katy Mortimer

Katy Mortimer serves as Lecturer in Medieval Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University, appointed in September 2023 on a two-year fixed term contract. She teaches undergraduate modules including Europe in the Age of the Vikings (Level 4), Castles in Medieval Society (Level 5), Manifestations of Empire (Level 5), Being A Historian (Level 6), and Sources and Approaches to Medieval & Early Modern Studies (Level 6), while also contributing to the MA module Themes and Sources in History.

Her research expertise centers on Medieval History with specialized focus areas including Viking Age societies, medieval architectural development, social structures of medieval communities, imperial formations, and historical research methodologies. This interdisciplinary approach bridges Medieval and Early Modern Studies through analysis of primary sources and thematic historical frameworks.

Dr Mortimer actively supervises undergraduate and master's level dissertations, providing methodological guidance and subject-specific expertise across medieval historical topics. Her teaching practice emphasizes source criticism and interdisciplinary approaches to historical analysis.
