Jo Mockeridge

Dr Jo Mockeridge serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Criminology, Forensic Investigation and Sociology at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), where she has been affiliated since 2012 and joined the Applied Criminology team in 2017. A CCCU undergraduate alumnus from the early 2000s, she holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and completed her PhD in criminal justice at CCCU.

Her educational background includes:

Research focuses on England and Wales' youth justice system, examining how practitioners shape or subvert policy through the lens of human agency and autonomy in children. Her work critically analyzes the tension between minors' limited capacities compared to adults within criminal prosecution frameworks, bridging criminology, criminal justice policy, and sociological theory. Current teaching includes Crime: Representations and Realities (Level 4), Youth, Crime and Justice (Level 5), and Police Cultures and Societies (Level 6).

Professional experience encompasses prior roles as an initial crime investigator at Kent Police and associate academic at the University of Kent, complementing her applied research perspective within the Applied Criminology team.
