Kathryn Duda

Kathryn Duda is an Assistant Professor of Russian Studies and serves as the Director of Russian Studies at Mercyhurst University. She is affiliated with the Department of Anthropology and World Languages and contributes to Russian language pedagogy and research on 20th-century historical and cultural topics.

Research Interests: Dr. Duda’s work centers on the Gulag system, motherhood, youth culture, and dissent communities in 20th-century Russia. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges historical analysis with anthropological perspectives on societal structures.

Professional Experience: She has volunteered at Metro Achievement Center in Chicago, teaching ACT prep and junior high math, and taught English as a second language in Sokolov, Czechia. She also acts as a reader for the Critical Language Scholarship program.
