Katalin Downing

Katalin Downing is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She currently serves on leave while deployed with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) to UN/Ukraine.

• Education: MA in International Crime and Justice (CUNY/John Jay College, 2017); BA in International Studies & Political Science (Dickinson College, 2001); ERASMUS studies at Sciences Po Toulouse and isdaT (1999-2000)

Research focuses on the United Nations, international law frameworks, human rights operationalization in conflict zones, and peacekeeping mechanisms. Specializes in analyzing R2P (Responsibility to Protect) implementation through UN peacekeeping contexts, as explored in her graduate work under Dr. George Andreopoulos.

Professional Experience: Joined UN in 2007, participated in Young Professionals Programme (2011) assigned to UNON-Nairobi, and currently works in UNDSS. Maintains expertise in administration, finance, and production editing across UN missions.

Languages: Fluent in English and French, basic proficiency in Hungarian, Italian, and Kiswahili.
