George Andreopoulos is a Professor of Political Science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the Graduate Center, CUNY. He is the founding Director of the Center for International Human Rights at John Jay. Previously, he taught at Yale University and served as Founding Associate Director of the Orville H. Schell, Jr. Center for International Human Rights. His expertise spans international human rights, humanitarian law, and civil liberties, with a focus on human trafficking and sexual violence. He has conducted human rights missions globally and consulted for international organizations and NGOs.

His research interests include the intersection of international law and human rights, counter-terrorism policies, and the role of international organizations. As Editor-in-Chief of Human Rights Review, he promotes interdisciplinary scholarship. He has held leadership roles as past President of the Interdisciplinary Studies Section (IDSS) of the International Studies Association (ISA) and past President of the Human Rights Section of the American Political Science Association (APSA).
His grants and fellowships include support from the Ford Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Alexander Onassis Foundation, and German Research Foundation. He frequently participates in media discussions on human rights issues, including a recent webinar on the War in Ukraine.
