Dr. Karla Adu is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the School of Nursing & Health Sciences, Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU). She holds a PhD in Nursing (Transcultural Nursing concentration) from Duquesne University, an MS in Family Nurse Practitioner from The Ohio State University, and a BSN from Capital University (Summa Cum Laude). Her research focuses on transcultural nursing, minority health, rural healthcare access, and global health. She has presented at national conferences, including Sigma Theta Tau’s 47th Biennial Convention, and received the 2023 Excellence in Nursing Research Award. Her teaching and clinical experience spans over two decades, including roles as a Family Nurse Practitioner, clinical instructor, and staff nurse in interventional cardiology.
Professional roles include serving as Counselor and Governance Committee Chair for Sigma Theta Tau’s Rho Nu at-Large Chapter. Awards include Phi Kappa Phi induction (2016), Sigma Theta Tau membership (1998), and the Fuld Fellowship (1998).
