Karl Zechenter

Karl Zechenter serves as Lecturer for Graphics / Art Education at the Department of Fine Arts and Design, Mozarteum University Salzburg, and also teaches Science & Art courses at the University of Salzburg.

His artistic practice explores the intersection of media, technology, and society through digital installations, interactive media, and experimental performance. Zechenter's work investigates how technological frameworks shape contemporary artistic expression and social engagement.

Notable awards include:

• Ferdinand Eberherr Prize for Experimental Theater (1997)
• Robert Jungk Year 2013 Art Project for 'Local Crisis Machine'
• Salzburg State Media Prize 2012 for 'From Darkness'
• Outstanding Artist Award from the Federal Ministry of Art

As artistic director of ARGEkultur (1999-2005) and director of the Offmozart Festival (2006), Zechenter has shaped Salzburg's cultural landscape while exhibiting internationally at venues including ZKM Karlsruhe, Ethnological Museum Berlin, and European Media Art Festival. His work with artist collective gold extra since 1998 demonstrates sustained innovation at the technology-art-society interface.
