Julia Hickey is an Instructor at The Cooper Union's School of Art. She holds an M.F.A from Rutgers University and a B.A. from Yale University. Her interdisciplinary practice spans painting, textiles, and installation art, focusing on themes of display, desire, and power in relation to female-identifying bodies. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo shows at the Museum of Art San Luis Obispo (CA) and group exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (CA) and Modern Art Oxford (UK).
Hickey founded MATINEE, a project space supporting emerging artists, and currently resides and works in New York City. Her research interrogates materiality and socio-cultural narratives through textile-based works that challenge conventional frameworks of embodiment and visibility.
