Joseph Mougel is an Associate Professor of Photography & Imaging, Co-Chair of the Department of Art & Design, and Area Head of Photography at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. His academic background includes an MFA in Photography from the University of New Mexico and a BFA in Photography from the University of Georgia. He has participated in the Land Arts of the American West post-studio program and multiple artist residencies, including Elsewhere Artists Collaborative and 35/35.
His artistic practice explores identity through still imagery, sound, video, and installation, focusing on his experiences as a first-generation American and former Marine. His work appears in publications like Art Papers and ARTL!ES Magazine, and is collected by institutions such as the New Mexico Museum of Art.
