Dr. Joseph D. Brown is an Instructor in the Department of Management at the United States Coast Guard Academy. He holds a BS in Marine and Environmental Sciences (1998), MS in Organic Chemistry (2007), and PhD in Chemistry (2015). Prior to academia, he served in the US Coast Guard for over two decades, including roles as a Deck Watch Officer, Port Safety and Security Officer, and leader of oil spill response teams. His research focused on organic synthesis, MRI contrast agents, and trace drug detection. Post-retirement, he earned an MS in Financial Planning and now teaches personal finance to cadets.
