John Tranter

John Tranter is an Instructor of Low Brass at the University of Minnesota since Spring 2003 and an active freelance musician in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. He performs with renowned ensembles including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, JazzMN Big Band, and Sheldon Theatre Brass Band.

His academic credentials include a Master of Music in Trombone Performance from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance (minor in euphonium) from the University of Kansas. He has also held adjunct teaching positions at Concordia University Saint Paul and Normandale Community College.

Mr. Tranter’s performance career spans collaborations with Symphonia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Trujillo (Perú), Palm Beach Opera, Kansas City Symphony Brass Quintet, and American Wind Symphony. He specializes in trombone, euphonium, and tuba, with a focus on chamber music and music education.
