John R Heneghan

John R Heneghan serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting & Finance at the University of Limerick's Kemmy Business School. He concurrently lectures annually at Ireland's Institute of Directors on corporate governance and co-founded the Paris-based European Foundation for Territorial Excellence to advance regional sustainability in the EU.

Research Focus: His work centers on corporate governance mechanisms in SMEs, emphasizing financial accounting's role in transparency and policy relevance. Additional key areas include educational access for disadvantaged groups (particularly Traveller communities), spatial awareness in accounting pedagogy, and public sector risk management. This research actively engages local communities and government partners to empower marginalized populations through educational processes.

Publication Trends: Analysis of his 15 research outputs (2001-2012) reveals consistent focus on SME governance challenges, with recent works (2010-2012) addressing credit access barriers, eTax systems, and socio-educational integration. Projects & Leadership: Heneghan directed the EU-funded Eurexcter Project for socio-economic inclusion and created UL's Business Transformation Programme for SME growth.
