She is deeply engaged in interdisciplinary research that employs mathematical modeling to understand social and physical realities.
- Institution: London School of Economics and Political Science
- Department: Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method
- Academic Rank: Assistant Professor
Her research interests include feminist epistemology, social epistemology, philosophy of physics, philosophy of science, philosophy of race, and Asian diasporic philosophy. She uses network models to study how social identities and injustice affect knowledge production and applies geometric and topological methods to foundational questions in physics, particularly spacetime theories and statistical mechanics. Her work increasingly explores intersections between feminist theory and the philosophy of physics, advocating for structural changes in academia to support minoritized scholars.
The recent publication titled 'Rigor Capture' exemplifies her critical analysis of how marginalized groups in formal disciplines internalize elevated standards of rigor as a response to stereotypes, leading to elite capture within those communities. This work reflects broader trends in her scholarship that combine philosophical rigor with social critique, particularly in the context of diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic settings.
Jingyi Wu is actively involved in mentoring and community-building initiatives. She co-directed the Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) movement from 2020–2021, founded the LPS climate committee, and serves on the Underrepresented Philosophy of Science Scholars (UPSS) Committee at the Philosophy of Science Association. She has developed and taught innovative courses such as Asian American Philosophy at UC Irvine and runs a research group on social epistemology at LSE. She also taught a lecture stream on Computational Models of Diversity and Inequity at the MCMP summer school in 2024.
She has received external funding and institutional support for her interdisciplinary projects, particularly those integrating feminist perspectives with formal methodologies in philosophy. Her teaching emphasizes inclusive, skill-based, and individualized learning environments.
Jingyi Wu is building a vibrant community of feminist philosophers of physics and welcomes collaboration. She is passionate about creating more welcoming academic spaces through service, pedagogy, and research.
