Jill RachBeisel, MD is the Dr. Irving J. Taylor Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM). She also serves as President of the UMMC Medical Staff and Chief of Clinical Services for Psychiatry. Her roles include overseeing clinical services, research, and education across the department.
Education: Graduated from Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine (1985), completed psychiatric residency at UMMC (1989), serving as Chief Resident in her final year.
Research focuses on integrated care models, serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorders, women’s mental health, and addiction treatment. Key initiatives include the Academy of Independent Living program for SMI patients and the Advanced Depression Treatment Center. She has prioritized translational research in areas like treatment-resistant depression and women’s mental health.
Leadership highlights include 25+ years of administrative roles, including Division Director of Community Psychiatry (1999–2016) and development of programs addressing SMI in complex medical conditions. Current priorities include advancing population health management and faculty mentorship.
