Jennifer Siegler

Dr. Jennifer Siegler serves as a Lecturer at Georgia State University's Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design, actively advancing experiential learning through museum collection integration. Her CETLOE-funded project immerses students in hands-on art handling, collection management, and exhibition design using the Larry M. and Gwendolyn E. Walker Collection of Art.

Her educational background includes:

• Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Oglethorpe University (where she pioneered an individualized major later formalized by the institution)
• Additional studies at Emory University focused on museum collections integration

Dr. Siegler's research centers on contextualizing Latin American art within archaeological and historical narratives, addressing gaps in museum object provenance. She champions interdisciplinary approaches to expand art history through material culture studies, with ongoing efforts to establish a cross-departmental Museum Studies program integrating psychology, anthropology, and design disciplines.

Her CETLOE mini-grant supports High-Impact Practices by providing 25 students per course with professional museum management experience—from accessioning and condition reporting to exhibit proposal development. This aligns with GSU's strategic goals for student success through experimental learning.

Dr. Siegler's teaching methodology emphasizes tangible engagement with artifacts, utilizing resources like the Lowenberg Pre-Columbian Collection and Tanzanian textiles to bridge theoretical concepts with cultural contexts. Her vision includes creating a campus art museum to strengthen student-practitioner pathways in curation and collection management.
