Jeffrey David Burson

Dr. Jeffrey David Burson is a Professor of History at Georgia Southern University, affiliated with the Department of History within the College of Arts and Humanities. He holds a Ph.D. from George Washington University (2006), an M.Phil. (2003), and a B.A. from Concordia University, Ann Arbor (1999). His research focuses on Early Modern and Modern France, European Enlightenment, Religion and Enlightenment, Enlightenment Catholicism, and the Age of Revolutions (c. 1760-1848). He teaches courses such as HIST 3335 (Revolutions in France and the Caribbean) and HIST 5236 (Age of Revolutions in Europe and the Atlantic World).

His publications explore themes like entangled Enlightenment historiography, Jesuit scholarship, and the intersection of skepticism and religious thought. Recent works include The Culture of Enlightening (2019) and co-edited volumes on the Jesuit Suppression (2015) and Enlightenment Catholicism (2014).
