Jayamini Ranaweera

Jayamini Ranaweera is a Lecturer in Performance Analysis at St Mary's University since October 2022. Previously, he worked as a data scientist at Bath Rugby and held roles in manufacturing as a research and innovation manager, focusing on product development, wearable technology, automation, and digitalization in apparel manufacturing. He holds a PhD in Sport Informatics from Leeds Beckett University (2023), alongside an MSc in Electronics and Automation, BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering, and BSc in Applied Sciences. He is a Chartered Engineer in the UK and Australia, a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE).

His teaching areas include sport data analysis, professional projects, research methods, and the role of the analyst. Research interests span sports informatics, sports analytics, wearable technology, decision-making processes, and process improvement in sports systems. His work bridges engineering and sports science, leveraging data science to optimize athlete management and training methodologies.

Jay's research outputs emphasize data-driven approaches in rugby and cricket, exploring topics like player management decision-making, small-sided game design, and wearable sensor applications. His interdisciplinary background allows him to apply healthcare process improvement strategies to sports contexts, enhancing operational efficiency through digital transformation.

Awards and accolades include Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Chartered Engineer status, reflecting his dual expertise in engineering and academic leadership. He has conducted workshops on affordable motion capturing technologies for sports and clinical applications in Sri Lanka.
