Grant Duthie

Dr. Grant Duthie is a Senior Lecturer at Australian Catholic University's School of Behavioural and Health Sciences, based at the Strathfield Campus. He joined in 2016 after a 15-year career in elite sport, including roles as a strength and conditioning coach in rugby and football. His expertise focuses on athlete assessment, data analytics, and team sport player tracking, with a particular emphasis on micro-technology applications.

Dr. Duthie holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Queensland (2004) and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) from the University of Ballarat. He teaches sport and exercise science, coordinating courses in functional anatomy, resistance training, and data analysis for high-performance sport. He currently supervises five PhD students researching sport science and strength and conditioning.

His research has explored GPS-derived acceleration in team sports, FIFA Electronic Player Tracking System validation, and movement characteristics in Australian Football League Women's competitions. He consults for national and international sports organizations, including FIFA, Rugby Australia, and the Japan Rugby Union. Key projects include analyzing electronic player tracking systems and optimizing data visualization for athlete monitoring.

Dr. Duthie has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on wearable technology validation, player tracking, and sport biomechanics. His applied experience includes roles as a strength and conditioning coach for the Australian Rugby Union, South Sydney Rugby League, and the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He remains actively involved in elite sport, blending academic research with practical performance enhancement strategies.

His lab affiliations include the Sports Performance, Recovery, Injury and New Technologies (SPRINT) Research Centre at ACU, where he leads projects on athlete performance metrics and data-driven decision-making in sports.
