Jason Vickers

Jason Vickers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the University of South Florida. He teaches American history surveys (AMH 2010 and AMH 2020) and specialized courses such as HIS 3308: War and Society, focusing on slavery and sectionalism, and an Honors course analyzing American history through film.

• Education: Ph.D. from the University of South Florida (2015).

His research centers on antebellum American history, particularly the Oneida community's socio-cultural dynamics and the portrayal of Africa in Black consciousness during the nineteenth century. He has published in American Nineteenth-Century History and continues revising his dissertation work.

Vickers emphasizes narrative-driven pedagogy, using primary historical documents to explore contested concepts like freedom across generations. His courses blend lectures with targeted discussions and prioritize historical storytelling.
