Dr. David Vickers is a Lecturer in Music at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), specializing in Baroque music, particularly the works of Handel. He holds a PhD from the Open University and has published extensively on Handel’s operas, revisions, and performance practices. His research also encompasses Purcell, Vivaldi, Mozart, and Haydn, with a focus on 17th- and 18th-century vocal and sacred music. Vickers is an editor of major Handel-related works, including the Cambridge Handel Encyclopedia (2009) and New Perspectives on Handel’s Music (2022). He serves on the council of the Handel Institute and advises international baroque musicians. As a critic for Gramophone since 2003, he contributes essays to leading classical record labels. Vickers is also a singer with Leeds Baroque and conducts choirs in Huddersfield.
His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate courses, covering Baroque music history, performance studies, and opera. He lectures globally and participates in projects like reconstructing Handel’s operatic versions and exploring the careers of early 18th-century singers such as Senesino and Giulia Frasi.
